Fate of 2015 election lies with politicians – REC

Dafwang said during a stakeholders’ forum in Makurdi on Sunday that the elections would be a success only when politicians agreed to accept results in good faith.
“Politicians should learn to congratulate winners after losing election. The success of the election depends on the politicians,” he said.
The REC, who berated the undemocratic manner which led to the emergence of some political parties candidates in the December primaries held nationwide, argued that such process does not allow intra-party democracy to thrive.
He cited America’s president, Barrack Obama, who was elected based on merit and urged political parties to provide opportunity for more “Obamas” to emerge in order to salvage the nation.
Dafwang added that violence would be minimised to the barest minimum if politicians would emulate former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, who congratulated his opponent immediately after he lost the 2014 election to Governor Ayo Fayose.
