Supporters of a faction of the leadership thronged the secretariat brandishing sticks and attempted to force themselves into the building but were dispersed by the police.
The acting chairman of the party had summoned the meeting of the SWC for the first time since the suspension of Chief Joel Madaki. Rufai alleged that they were supporters of Chief Joel Madaki who is at the forefront of opposition to the emergence of Nuhu Ribadu as governorship candidate.
Madaki who enjoys the support of some aggrieved aspirants described the primary elections conducted in Abuja as illegal and obtained a court order from the Yola High Court to stop his suspension.
Reacting to the development, Rufai accused Madaki of sponsoring political thugs to disrupt the meeting, saying the action was uncalled for.
He said the action proved that Madaki had left the PDP but was looking for a means to destroy its fortune in 2015. He expressed his resolve to team up with the NWC of the party to deliver to Malam Nuhu Ribadu in the 2015 polls, calling on the party faithful to remain calm as the issue of Madaki would be addressed by the appropriate authorities.
But Madaki denied the allegation, saying it was meant to tarnish his image for standing firm against illegality and imposition of unpopular candidates.
