A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Gombe on Monday granted bail to Muhammad Adamu Yayari, new media aide to Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje.

Yayari had been remanded in police custody since November 30. He was arrested for posting on his Facebook page, the resignation of some ward executives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Yamaltu/Deba LGA.

The state Counsel, Barrister Ramatu Ibrahim Hassan, told the court that the accused person had on November 25, 2021, published ‘an injurious falsehood’ against the executives of the APC in Yamaltu/Deba LGA chapter of the party on his personal Facebook page.

Barrister Hassan, who read the police FIR, said the accused intended to harm the reputation of the ward executives with the said post by alleging that 80 per cent of them have ‘abdicated’ their position.

She told the court that Yayari incited disturbance, which contradicted Sections 393 and 114 of the Penal Code Law.

The defense counsels lead by Luka Haruna had earlier applied for bail of the accused person based on medical grounds.

In his ruling on the assumption of hearing, Chief Magistrate Mohammed Sulaiman Kumo, granted the accused person bail.

As part of the condition, the presiding judge ordered that the defendant must provide two sureties.

He added that one of the sureties must be a resident of Gombe metropolis, while the second must be a traditional ruler.

The court adjourned till February 21, 2022, for continuation of the case.
