The Lagos police boss, Marvel Akpoyibo who addressed motorcyclists recently in the state, said the Command was ready to arrest any policeman who was found wanting. The warning came after the police boss ordered that motorcyclists who operate beyond the stipulated period of 10pm should be arrested. The arrest of erring motorcyclists is aimed at checkmating the activities of armed robbers who operate on motor bikes to dispossess innocent people of their money and other properties.
The Commissioner of Police who said he was pursuing a zero level crime rate in the state revealed that, crime rate had reduce drastically in the state since the commencement of the onslaught on okada riders after 10pm.
Hence, the police boss maintained that the onslaught against erring okada riders will help reduce crime rate in the state and so no policeman should see it as a money spinning drive.
In his words, “I will not hesitate to punish any policeman found extorting money from motorcyclists, their duty is to arrest any motorcyclist that operate beyond the stipulated period and not to see it as a money making venture, any policeman caught extorting money from them will have himself to blame” he concluded.
Meanwhile, a policeman who was arrested in the act was also recently paraded by the Lagos State Police Command.
