Foreign medical students who failed the medical examinations conducted by the National Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (NMDCN) have asked to be tested again.

The students alongside their parents have called on the council to conduct another examination as there were irregularities during the last test.

Speaking yesterday during a press conference in Abuja, One of the affected foreign students, Adam Ibrahim, who graduated from Kursla State Medical University of Russian Federation, said the first examination was organised with no cut off mark or benchmark used to rate the students.

“When the Acting Director General of the council, Dr Tajudeen Sanusi came to the university of Ilorin teaching hospital, where we were undergoing our training, he said to us that only 200 people will pass this exam and that was what happened. Just 200 people passed and none of the foreign medical student was part of them. Out of 689 students, 437 passed. How come? How did all the foreign student not even one could pass the exam? How were successful ones accessed?” he said.

Ibrahim said whenever they accompanied consultant doctors for ward rounds, they were usually about 50 students to one consultant and sometimes, most students were not able to see and hear their teacher.

He said a class meant for 150 students was forced to accommodate over 600 students hence calling on the council to reset the examination on a just and unbiased ground.

On behalf of the parents, Sadiq Kassim said the council billed parents N91 million for the training and examinations but paid only N5 million to the authorities of university of Ilorin.

He demanded that another examination be set by private bodies not the council.
