Ex-servicemen, under the aegis of Nigerian Legion, have called on government at all levels and the general public to give them jobs and other opportunities.
The national chairman of the legion, Brigadier-General Adakole Akpa, made the call in Jos yesterday at a leadership retreat.
Represented by his aide, Major Gabriel Ad’ofikwu, Akpa said their contemporaries in other countries were given special places at public transport, discounts at canteens and employment opportunities.
He said his members were unemployed, noting that “We have engineers, doctors, lawyers and managers, but when our men are in the open market people don’t give them employment, they only see our men as men with guns.
“We hope the perception would change in the nearest future. Our men are now capable, we do hope government at all levels and general public would give them employment opportunities.”
