Major General Mohammed I. Alkali, who just retired from service as the Chief of Administration, Nigerian Army Headquarters, has gone missing.
Credible sources said the incident happened on Monday, September 3, the day the Major General was travelling from Abuja to Bauchi.
He arrived in Jos mid afternoon that day and called home to pass that information.
Our sources said that was the last conversation anyone had with the senior army officer for the last 13 days.
“His phones went dead since that call he made home and all efforts to reach him on phone was answered with a recorded message from the respective network saying he cannot be reached or out of coverage,” one source said.
He was reported missing and from the calculations of his movement as well as the last time he was spoken to his disappearance was within the Plateau State axis.
When contacted, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Tyopev Terna, said the elder brother of the missing Army General, retired Commmissioner of Police, Umar F. Idris reported the matter at the Anglo-Jos Police Division.
He said investigation is already ongoing into the matter.
In his reaction, the Chief of Staff of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the multi-security task force in charge of Plateau, Bauchi and Southern Kaduna, Brigadier General Muhammed Bello, said they were aware of incident.
He said they had already received directives from the headquarters to investigate the matter, adding that they had commenced their work from the perspective of their own jurisdiction.
Brigadier Bello said they had not established contact with the family because that was a matter for the headquarters.
He said they would do their best and work on this particular assignment.
Our source said Alkali was travelling in a Toyota Corola car with registration number MUN 670 AA.
