The Executive Vice Chairman of CIRS, Stanley Ukaga made the assertion yesterday at media briefing in Abuja. He said the Centre and the European Centre have obtained clearance from the government to train civilians and security forces on countermeasures of private defence as well as skills of detecting terrorist threats.
He said the training which will commence in November will also include ways of providing initial care for victims of attack including bombings. “Our effort is aimed at complementing the government in addressing the security challenges.”
He said the training and people interested in the exercise must obtain permission from the police before they are registered. He said security personnel will also receive training on anti-kidnapping and counter terrorism.
The representative of the European Academy in Nigeria, Tom Van Watermeulen said courses for civilians do not involve the use of firearms. “The courses are purely armless self-defence tactics.”
