Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum at the command’s conference hall in Lagos, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Mohammed Umar said part of the problems associated with delay in cargo clearance was attempt by some people to cut corners.
According to the controller, the new procedure incorporates other government agencies such as National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Umar said the procedure will enhance security checks at ports. He noted that these are parts of the resolutions reached at the last stakeholders’ forum with the Comptroller General of Customs.
He assured stakeholders that Apapa Area 1 command is focused on seamless ports operation.
He regretted that some agents for whatever reason are bent on jumping the guns.
This he said hinders government’s 48 hours cargo clearance policy.
