The Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has begun an aggressive campaign against Lassa fever so as to ward off the spread of the deadly disease in the area.
To this end, the Executive Secretary, Mr Jaiye Alabi, has advised people in the LCDA to be mindful of their environment and to examine carefully the foods they eat to avoid contracting Lassa fever.
Alabi, who gave the advice at a stakeholders’ meeting recently, also urged residents of the area to shun foods which rats may have eaten from or urinated in, stressing that foodstuffs must be kept properly and shielded from rodents.
He said: “Cleanliness is next to godliness and health is wealth. We will carry out our responsibility with the little income we make to fumigate, sanitise and give access to the community. We are trying to get a firm dealing with fumigation to reduce Lassa fever.
“Governance is about information and communication. It is better we are informed on what is going on, from the government to the people so that they will assist us. There are some efforts the community must also do so that the government will wake up.”
He implored the Community Development Association (CDA) to collaborate with the Community Development Council (CDC) to improve the community, while also commending the previous administration in the council for its devotion to road construction, especially the Ejigbo-Ilamose Canoe-Ajao Link Road.
