Weekly Trust learnt from sources that several houses were destroyed and property lost in the latest cycle of violence which lasted for hours.
Nasarawa State Police Commissioner Umar Shehu, who confirmed the incident, said the police have been deployed to the area.
Two days ago, the state inquiry commission set up after several security men were killed in Nasarawa State heard that 63 policemen were killed in the Ombatse cult violence of May 7 in Nasarawa State.
A police memo presented before the commission signed by Police Commissioner Shehu Umaru, and read on his behalf by Chief Superintendent Sam Ewa behind closed doors, said the decision to embark on the ill-fated operation was approved by the Nasarawa State Security Council, comprising the governor, Secretary to the State Government, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, heads of security agencies in the state, and key traditional rulers.
The operation was a joint one between the conventional police, state Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), the Mobile Police Squadron 38 in Akwanga otherwise called Tiger Squadron, and the SSS.
Attempts to reach the National Youth Service Corps officials yesterday were not successful, but some corps members who told Weekly Trust that they hope their colleagues would be found hale and hearty.
