Abuja is a city with numerous exquisite restaurants and different eateries, some of them even becoming household names. Some, however, are new, and have the task of making a name. One of such is Frank’s Prime Hotdog, a stand located on ever-busy Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, in Wuse II. The owner of the business actually ventured into making hotdogs as an alternative to the more popular Shawarma.
In most foreign countries, hotdogs are usually considered to be street food sold at stands. Since Abuja is a bubbling place and the owner is into importation of sausages, opening up a hotdog stand made perfect business sense.
Hotdogs are made of cooked, grilled or fried sausages served in a long, soft roll just like a sandwich. It is topped with ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese, chili and mustard depending on what each individual wants. The sausages were culturally imported from Germany and popularized in the United States, where they were a working class street food sold at hot dog stands that came to be associated with baseball and America.
Manager Hakeem Rahmon Adekunle said they have plans to open several more branches across the FCT and other states, as well.
With a variety to choose from, Frank’s Prime Hotdog menu includes Classic, NY Classic, Barbeque, Mexican, Hot Chili and Nigerian Style Hotdog. The last one is pretty spicy, as Nigerian varieties of pepper are used to prepare it. “It’s specially for people who love pepper. The only difference between other types and Nigerian, is that it comes with cabbage and local pepper rather than jalapenos or hot chili,” the manager explained.
Adekunle also added that their hotdogs are halal, which means Muslims can eat it. “The hotdogs we use are either beef or turkey.
A sampling of a variety of the hotdogs showed a truly tasty treat and the toppings also were quite varied. For Abuja residents and visitors who love hotdogs – and those yet to try them – Frank’s is the perfect place to stop.
