A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, yesterday said the creation of additional districts for Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State will not benefit Hausa community alone but all ethnic groups resident in the area.
Kwande, whose comment on the agitation for more districts in the area stirred reaction from certain ethnic groups in the state, said he did not mean that only one district should be created specifically for the Hausa community but that being a cosmopolitan city with different ethnic nationalities, Jos North deserves districts that are all inclusive.
He maintained that Jos North was the only LGA out of the 774 in the country being administered differently, adding, “Any ethnic nationality that may be lucky to be one of the three or four district heads if created, nobody should quarrel about it because at the moment, it appears the paramount ruler relates only with the hamlet heads, the ward heads and I think it is degrading.
“You cannot look at a local government area as big as Jos North with about a million inhabitants to have only one district head. I thought the Gbong Gwom will be among those congratulating me because it will make his work easier to get to the people in his domain if we have more districts and village heads.”
