Governor Udom Emmanuel’s decision to dissolve the Akwa Ibom State executive council, at the weekend, will reduce the overwhelming influence of his boss and former governor of the state, Godswill Akpabio, Daily Trust has gathered.
Our correspondent learnt that many of the disengaged commissioners and other political appointees were Akpabio’s loyalists.
It was gathered that the recent shakeup was to allow Governor Emmanuel to form a ‘team of his own’.
A source, who preferred anonymity, said the governor dropped everybody to start on a clean slate, instead of sacking only those “given to him by his predecessor” which will generate controversy.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Etekamba Umoren, containing the dissolution of the cabinet, only said Governor Emmanuel expressed his deep and profound appreciation for the contributions of the former EXCO members to the development of the state.
