Professor Abdullahi said this at the opening ceremony of an interfaith retreat for youth leaders in Northern Kaduna Senatorial District. The event was organised by the Global Peace Foundation, Nigeria, in Zaria.
“There is no quarrel between the Qur’an and Bible, so why the quarrel between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria? Let me charge all Nigerians to be steadfast in holding onto the tenets of their religions to promote mutual trust and understanding. Let us identify and understand our differences, so that we can appreciate and tolerate each other for the common good of Nigeria. No patriotic Nigerian is quarrelling with a corporate, united and peaceful country, hence the need for the citizenry to work together”, he said.
In his speech, Chairman of the foundation, Mr John Oko, identified family as the foundation of peace. He said no society or nation will achieve peace without strengthening family units.
Malam Waziri Ibrahim of ABU, on his part, advocated for the establishment of an institute that would sensitise Islamic and Christian preachers on the need to promote peace.
