The Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) on Wednesday gave out textile materials, food items and money to 90 widows of military and police men who were killed in active duty.
The President of DEPOWA Mrs. Omobolanle Olonisakin distributed the items to the widow at the Army Headquarters Mogadishu Cantonment Abuja as part of activities in celebration of the 2016 DEPOWA Week.
The DEPOWA president with other officials of the association interacted with the women comprising 15 widows of police personnel and 75 widows of military personnel from the army, navy and air-force.
Mrs Olonisakin said: “We have come here today to empathize, to support and to show you that we love you. Your husbands were strong, courageous and heroes of our great nation. They fought for the liberation of our country. They fought for us, and we are proud of them.”
She added that: “We are here to partly acknowledge what they have done for our country. Feel free at all times to come to us whenever a need arises, and I am assuring you that we will always do our best.”
Mrs Olonisakin assured the widows that the association offers vocational empowerment through the DEPOWA Skills Acquisition Centre in Abuja, which also offers soft loans for businesses startup.
