Counsel to 10 suspects, Bashir Sabiu Ahmad, told Weekly Trust yesterday that eight of his clients were each sentenced two years imprisonment while the other two got four years jail term each.
“A total of 22 suspects were tried, 19 have been sentence to two years and three of the officers got four years jail term. All sentences are subject to confirmation by the superior army authority,” Ahmad said. “We are not satisfied with the judgments, but we have to wait for the decision and confirmation of the high army authority before taking the appropriate next step.”
Efforts to obtain a comment from the deputy director Army Public Relations, 3 Armored Division, Col. Texas Chukwu, failed as his number was unobtainable at the time of filing this report.
