In a dramatic manner, the Group of 10 Councillors who signed the impeachment notice served on the chairman recently made a U-Turn on the matter in Ibadan, claiming that all was now well in the council following the intervention of the elders caucus of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state led by Governor Alao-Akala.

It would be recalled that 10 out of the 12 councillors in the local government had signed the impeachment notice served on Prince Aleshinloye in which the embattled council chairman was given seven day’s ultimatum within which to respond to the various allegations of misconduct levied against him, failure of which he should consider himself sacked.

Allegations against Aleshinloye included his alleged failure “in many of his administrative duties, including non-disclosure of the council’s statement of income and expenditure for consideration and debate to ensure accountability and compliance with performance ethics as stipulated by the provision of Section 3.1.3 (iii) (c) of the Local Government Administration bye-law in Nigeria. Aleshinloye was also accused of failure to present the report of the mandatory weekly Finance and General Purposes (F & G) meetings to the council’s Legislature which obviously suggests that the meetings were either not held or a deliberate neglect of the local government legislature”.

Aleshinloye was also accused of embacking on “various white elephant projects that do not pass the test of time”, among others, while copies of the impeachment notice were despatched to the State Governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao Akala; his Deputy, Alhaji Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Moroof Olawale Atilola; the state commissioner for local government, the state chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the leader of the legislative arm of the local government council, Mr Adisa Adeyinka and other principal officers of the state.
