Lawyers and other visitors, who came to the Maitama office of the commission for business, were prevented by the protesting staff who locked the main entrance from entering and only allowed colleagues into the office, while vowing not to work until the management stops the deductions.
In a statement jointly signed by Comrades Yusuf Buba and Ibrahim Kirfi, chairman and secretary respectively of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) branch of CAC said the strike began after the management failed to address staff demands raised with the threat of strike twice, in August 2012 and last September.
A separate statement also accused the management of cornering the commission’s property, handing themselves huge benefits and privileges, stealing funds and giving themselves undue and frivolous privileges among other allegations.
