The Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Andrew Nok has disclosed the state government’s plan to commence enforcement of compulsory primary education across the 23 local government areas next month.
Briefing newsmen on the activities of the ministry, the commissioner said the bill to enforce compulsory primary education had been passed into law by the state assembly and would become effective by September.
Commenting on delayed payment of salary to newly recruited teachers, he said it was to ensure that all the newly recruited staff passed through proper documentation to check the ghost workers syndrome.
He said the state government intended to integrate the Almajiri children into the modern school system, and that 15 secondary schools would be re-converted into boarding schools and equipped with standard facilities such as hostels, libraries, clinic, kitchens, perimeter fence, laboratories and potable water to ensure conducive environment for teaching and learning.
