No fewer than 2,100 undergraduate students of Ajayi Crowder University, Oyo, and  Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, have benefited from free personal branding lessons from Digital Discoveries, a community services organisation.

Speaking with Daily Trust after the second edition of the programme held at Bowen University at the weekend, the Chief Executive Officer of Digital Discoveries, Taiwo Elizabeth, said the programme was aimed at impacting knowledge in students to help them stand on their own after graduation.

Elizabeth said, “We are into community service and science analysis. After graduation, there are always a lot of unemployed graduates. We, therefore, came up with a digital platform to train undergraduates, irrespective of their course of study, on projecting themselves online in order to have a perfect fan base. This means they do not need to have a shop or office, but from the comfort of their homes they can reach out to a whole lot of target audience and get their returns.”

One of the facilitators and Dean, 02 Academy, Lagos, Okpe Marthias Okpe, said he was at Bowen University to educate the students on how to leverage digital marketing as a personal branding tool.

Okpe noted, “It is good and timely that we are enlightening these students so by the time they are coming out of school, they can exploit the digital space to sell themselves. The idea is that they can become visible as experts in a niche and command influence, be relevant and have an impact.”

The President, National Association of Mass Communication Students, Bowen University chapter, Temitope Shittu, described the initiative by Digital Discoveries as “amazing”.

Shittu stated, “This is an impactful programme. It is difficult to get this kind of programme for free these days. People pay so much for what we are being taught here today for free.”
