In a petition signed by the Secretary of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Kaura Namoda local government area and who is also a member of the committee Bashir Sahabi Liman, it was alleged that there was illegal deductions of the commodity meant for distribution at each of the 175 polling units of the LGA.
“For instance, 5,950 bags of rice was allocated to all the polling units but they diverted 700 bags and out of the 1,570 bags of millet given they went away with 875 bags and on no account should they remove them and some of these diverted items have started flooding our markets,” Liman said.
He said there was also diversion of clothing materials given as Sallah gift, 29,750 pieces of wrappers were given and they removed 3,500 and they also went way with 5,250 Shadda material out of 19,250 given. “When I raised alarm over the issue, the local government party chairman Alhaji Jafaru Gidan Sambo who is also a member of the committee threatened to expel me if I dear attempt to reveal it,” Liman claimed
He then called on Governor Abdulaziz Yari to urgently disband the committee so that fresh one consisting of trustworthy and capable hands be set up and justice done to the people.
The chairman of the committee Alhaji Habu Idi dismissed the allegations, saying in the terms of reference given to them, there was no place in which it was stated that specific amount of commodity be given to each polling unit.
