Cocoa farmers elect exco, set to tackle crisis

Speaking at the end of the election which was held in Ikom, the heart of cocoa business in the state, the new chairman, Prince Roland Obi Enah, assured cocoa farmers that he will work to ensure sustained peace amongst stakeholders and improve the fortunes of cocoa trade.
On importance of adopting modern farming practices, Prince Enah said: “We shall subscribe to information on current trade and produce practices in the industry to keep our farmers, traders, merchants and other stakeholders abreast of the times,” he said.
Mr. Godwin Okwu, National Publicity Secretary of the association, conducted the election which saw Mr. Alphonsus Nana (immediate past chairman) emerging as vice chairman; Mr. Egim Tawo Secretary, Mr. Emeka Nwobodo, Assistant Secretary; Barr. Rotimi Olabode Legal Adviser; Mr. Patrick Oko, Financial Secretary; Mr. Martins Abang, Treasurer; Mr. Nicolas Umagu, Public Relations Officer;  and Mr. Ejor Achu Bissong, Auditor.

The crisis which pitched the Cocoa Association of Nigeria in Cross River State against the state government in the last several months over sale of cocoa estates and imposition of rates before exporting the product, has been partially resolved following an election that brought in a new leadership.
Speaking at the end of the election which was held in Ikom, the heart of cocoa business in the state, the new chairman, Prince Roland Obi Enah, assured cocoa farmers that he will work to ensure sustained peace amongst stakeholders and improve the fortunes of cocoa trade.
