The Centre for Management Development (CMD) says it has conducted accreditation for 1,443 management training consultants and 434 management training institutions across the country.
The CMD calls on government, private sector executives, donour agencies and all parties with personnel training needs to domesticate such training in Nigeria by patronizing local training consultants and institutions to save scarce resources and create jobs for Nigerians.
Addressing a quarterly press briefing in Abuja, the Director-General of the Centre, Dr Kabir Kabo Usman said the Centre which was established by the Federal Government to coordinate managerial manpower development, among other mandate areas, did much last year in conducting quality assurance for training consultants and training institutions in the country. He announced that further accreditation exercise will start in May.
Buttressing his call on government, private sector executives and donour agencies not to take people abroad for training that can be done in Nigeria, Kabir Usman said Nigeria spends at least $20 billion in training abroad. “If we domesticate just 1 percent of that, we will have N2bn worth of activities within the country,” he said, adding that with that, lots of jobs would be created in the local economy.
