NGO fetes widows, orphans

A non-governmental organization, Helpline Foundation for the Needy fetes widows and orphans in Abuja at the weekend.
250 women and children were given foodstuff and clothing materials as part of the organisation’s effort to identifying with the
Organiser of the programme and president of the foundation, Mrs Jumai Ahmadu said the effort is aimed at bringing succour to women who hardly get enough to celebrate.
She said the foundation also empowered women and a book on how to start business was presented to the women.
She revealed that the foundation is in partnership with African Health Project to assist vulnerable women in the territory.
“We are already in partnership with Abuja Enterprise Agency to access loan to empower them after the skill programme,” she said.
In her remarks, the president of Market Women Association, Mrs Felicia Sani urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the skill programme. She noted that successful business enterprises start on a small scale.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Aisha Sule said the event would encourage vulnerable women to be self-reliant.
