A PDP chieftain and national leader of Yoruba Youth Alliance (YYA), Chief Jackson Lekan Ojo, told Weekly Trust yesterday in Abuja,
that Vice President Namadi Sambo, statement the PDP would recapture the two states, was a language that smacks of the party’s intention to forcefully rig the polls in the two states.
He said Sambo’s remarks are a sad reminder of the ‘do-or-die’ politics of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo era, adding that if rigging had succeeded in the past, it will be difficult for it now based on the level of awareness and consciousness of the people.
Ojo said this mindset coming from the vice president is a minus for President Goodluck Jonathan’s speculated 2015 presidential ambition and the party. He said the comments have only further soiled the image of the PDP in the eyes of Nigerians, after its poor showing in the procedure and choice of candidates it selected to fly its gubernatorial tickets in those states.
“Vice President Sambo should retract the statement. And it’s better for President Jonathan to drop Sambo, as running mate, if he is contesting the 2015 elections. Sambo is the highest political office holder from the North, but he has not manifested this clout in followership and action and he will not add value to his presidency, but create these problems for him,” he said.
