So many campaigns, rallies and seminars have been organized both home and abroad to demand for the release of these girls because their whereabouts has been shrouded in mystery.
On Thursday 11th July 2014, the #BringBackOurGirls campaign group in the capital city marked 150 days of the girls’ abduction. Twitter, the social media network which has been used to champion the campaign for their release became awash with tweets from well-meaning Nigerians.
Japheth Omojuwa @omojuwa tweeted:  “These girls would have been back home within days had our government not to look to play politics early on #BringBackOurourGirls”.
Then Isha Sesay of CNN @IshaSesayCNN tweeted: “I’ve not forgotten the plight of Nigeria’s missing girls. We’ve not been able to get any updates. I continue to try and say #BringBackOurGirls”.
Recently when the young female activist, Ms Malala Yousafzai came to Nigeria and met with President Goodluck Jonathan, she said she felt sad about their captivity, hence urgent action needed to be taken to effect their release. The school girl was shot by the Taliban on her way to school but after she survived, she decided to lend her voice to the global support for the education of the girl-child.
