The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) yesterday said that contrary to media reports over purported renewal of certificate of the defunct Chanchangi Airways, the airline is not currently engaged in any form of operation.
Spokesman of NCAA, Mr. Sam Adurogboye, stated this in response to a report suggesting that there has been controversy over the renewal.
“The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) wishes to state that there is no controversy at all concerning the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) of Chanchangi Airways,” he said in a statement.
The regulatory authority stressed that “at present and quite evidently, Chanchangi Airways is not carrying out any form of operation. In other words, everything concerning the airline has been archived.”
It would be recalled that Chanchangi, a one-time budget carrier in Nigeria, was grounded in 2013 after its fleet depleted to one aircraft.
The NCAA said going by the provision of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs) 2015 Part 9.1.1.12 (a), the airline cannot be operational.
