This was contained in a communiqué issued by the committee in Abuja on Friday signed by Prof. Chike Edozien, the Asagba of Asaba and Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
The Forum of Chancellors of Federal Universities (FCFU) yesterday in Abuja appealed to the Federal Government to resume negotiations with striking unions of universities across the country in order for students to go back to school. All three unions in Nigerian universities, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (NASU) have been on strike since June this year.
The Federal Government had earlier backed out of negotiations with the unions following what it called rigidity on the part of the unions in negotiations to end the strike action. “The Royal Fathers appealed to ASUU to respect the order of the Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP) and obey same by calling off the strike and back to the negotiating table.
