Speaking in a press conference on the 2012 national Lenten campaign in Kaduna, he stressed that the terrorist activities of the Boko Haram sect in many parts of the north has brought about confusion in the country as well as insecurity of lives and properties.
He added that while there are ethnic genocidal clashes in the south east, there are kidnappings and avoidable carnages on roads caused by corruption in both public and private sectors while he lamented increased rate of immorality and other vices all over the nation.
According to him, all the aforementioned including dwindling standard of education and the prevalence of unemployment for young people can be attributed to the lack of qualitative and functional education in the country.
“The Catholic Bishop’s conference of Nigeria through its administrative organ, the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) initiated the thematic Lenten campaign programme with the ultimate goal of using the Lenten season to mobilize the faithful to a prayerful and soberly reflection on the social problems of the country with a view to contributing its quota in finding solution to them,” he stated.
