The Kaduna Capital School Old Students Association (KADCAPSOSA) yesterday unveiled the 60th anniversary logo ahead of the school’s anniversary celebration slated for January to November 2017.

The school, established in April 1957 by the late Premier of Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello, has graduated quite a number of prominent personalities.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony at the school premises in Kaduna, the President of the association, Hajiya Rabi Musa Saulawa, said the association was passionate about making an impact in the school by bringing it back to its old glory.

She said, “We are having problems with non-remittance of school fees from the government because unlike other government schools, students of the school still pay school fees that go to the government. The government is expected to send back 55 per cent for the running of the school, but the government does not send it back and it is slowing down the administration of the school. Another problem is teachers. There are not enough teachers and we as old students cannot just start employing teachers into the school. It has to be with the cooperation of the government. We have pledged that whatever the government does, we will counter it that is, if the government builds a classroom, we promise to build a classroom and vice versa but up till now, nothing has come from the government.”

Commenting on the 60th anniversary, she said, “Throughout the months of January to November 2017, we are going to have one event in the school premises starting with the Founder’s Day, which is Sir Ahmadu Bello in January, Polo Tournament, Quiz and art competitions, excursion, and end up with a gala/award night in November 2017.”

Also speaking, an ex-teacher of the school, Mrs. Victoria Bilewu lamented the teacher/pupil ratio in the school, saying no meaningful progress could be achieved with the ratio.

Mrs. Victoria who was a teacher in the school from 1966 to 1978 said during her time, the teacher/pupil ratio was one teacher to 25 pupils as against the one teacher to 70 pupils now.

The principal of the school, Hajiya Zulai Ja’afaru said the old students association had been assisting the school in different ways.
