An Upper Shariah court in Kano has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kwalli quarters, Kano Municipal Area, to investigate an alleged camping and featuring of a married woman in a musical video by one Dauda Kahutu Rarara.
Rarara was alleged to have used one Maryam Muhammad in his song, “Jihata, Jihata ce” without the consent of her husband, Abdulkadir Inuwa.
Inuwa’s direct complain filed before the court led to the summoning of Rarara to explain his role in the matter.
At its resumed sitting on Tuesday, Rarara through his counsel, Muhammad Bello, told the court that his client didn’t know the woman in question and that it was his producer, Abubakar Bashir Maishada that was responsible for hiring the dancers and paying them their allowances. He therefore asked the court to dismiss the case.
Earlier, the petitioner and husband, Inuwa, told the court that there was no quarrel between him and his wife but the he woke up one day and found her missing.
It was later that he saw his wife on YouTube singing and dancing with the singer (Rarara). “When I went to her family, they also told me they didn’t know her whereabouts,” he said.
In his ruling, the presiding Shariah judge, Ibrahim Sarki Yola, declined to dismiss the case as it contravened Section 104 of the penal code.
He directed the DPO of Kwalli quarters to investigate the singer, wife and the producer and adjourned the matter till February 2, 2021.
