The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has agreed to delay tomorrow’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and the Pharaohs of Egypt by an hour after Coach Samson Siasia complained of Kaduna’s harsh weather.
The crucial group G match was originally fixed for 4pm local time, but it has now been shifted to 5pm as the home team has expressed concerns that the heat in Kaduna could affect the Nigeria foreign-based players, who are just coming out of winter in Europe.
“This Kaduna heat fit bleach person”, Odion Ighalo tweeted yesterday while his teammate John Obi Mikel on Tuesday complained that the heat could work against Eagles in the must-win game.
Siasia first raised this concern when he took temporary charge of the team following the sudden exit of Sunday Oliseh last month.
Meanwhile, Elderson Echiejile has joined the rest of the Eagles squad in Kaduna after a delayed journey from France where he stars for Ligue 1 giants, Monaco FC.
