A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Harris Osaze Osarenren stated that the appointment will be based purely on merit.
It read, “One thing successive administrations of the University of Benin have been able to uphold over the years is the appointment of persons into positions purely on merit.”
The statement was issued to clarify insinuations that ethnic considerations would bear on the appointment of the university’s bursar later this month.
The current bursar, Dr May Ifeoma Nwoye whose first tenure ends this month is seeking reappointment. The system permits reappointment if the officer had performed well.
The university authorities assured all those interested in the position that they would not be discriminated against based on their ethnicity, religion or gender.
The statement promised staff of the university and students that management is poised to making UNIBEN a more globally competitive university and so no amount of distraction would dissuade it from pursuing its vision.
