The spokesperson of the APC in the South East, Mr Osita Okechukwu gave the assurance while speaking to journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja yesterday.
Okechukwu said that the appointments made by the president so far were solely based on professional competence, adding that the appointment of Service Chiefs should not be politicized, considering the level of insecurity in the country.
He expressed confidence that Igbo would not lose out in Buhari’s government. According to him, the president still has more than 500 appointments to make. Competent Igbo will get some of them.
The APC chieftain said that it would be unfair and impatient to assess the President with the less than 30 appointments he had made.
He also dismissed the belief that the Igbo were being marginalized because they did not vote for President Buhari.
On his part, a member of the APC Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Sam Nkire also said that the Igbo would get what is due to them in terms of appointments, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of orchestrating the attacks on President Buhari.
The former National Chairman of the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) said that the PDP’s campaign of calumny would fail and reassured people of the South-East that APC chieftains like Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Governor Rochas Okorocha, Dr Chris Ngige and others were capable of ensuring that the Igbo were adequately represented in President Buhari’s government.
He also said it was equitable for the South-East to produce the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) in president Buhari’s government.
