Contrary to social media speculations, Musa Murtala, a 20-month-old child ‘mutilated’ by his stepmother and grandmother, is still alive.
When Daily Trust correspondent visited the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital at 1:20pm yesterday, Musa was sleeping, and his mother, Bilkisu Usama who sat beside him, assured that he was responding to treatment.
She said Musa’s mouth, eye and ear have completely healed. “What now remain to be wholly healed are the fractured legs and hands. The injured tongue and forehead have healed. He can now eat like a normal child,” Bilkisu said.
She added that unlike before, her son would sometimes now cry for food if hungry. “I am thankful to God the Almighty who saved him from the two wicked women,” she said.
However, Bilkisu complained that the paternal grandfather of Aisha Murtala, a 4-yr-old sister of Musa who was recently returned to her mother on the order of the state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Gnaduje, was asking for Aisha. “Musa’s grandfather came here recently and demanded for Aisha. It was the quick intervention of some hospital officials that saved the situation,” she said.
Aisha was returned to Bilkisu based on her request for fear of repetition of the brutality done to her little brother.
