The Border Communities Development Agency is strategic to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges through intervention programmes that create a sense of belonging to the communities, the Executive Secretary of the agency has said.
Junaid Abdullahi stated this yesterday when he visited the corporate headquarters of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust newspapers.
He said in view of security challenges in the country, there was the need to make the border communities have a sense of belonging.
According to him, border communities are located in 21 states spread across 105 local government areas of the federation; while there were close to 3,000 communities as of 2013.
“If you neglect these border communities, they become vulnerable areas where you get cross border banditry,” Junaid said.
He said the agency intervention projects were designed to address local and community-based socio-economic problems such as lack of accessibility to educational and health facilities.
He solicited partnership with Media Trust Limited in the area of information dissemination.
