The prosecutor, Friday Adaji, told the court that one Mr. Friday Aleke, lodged a report against the accused at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Mararaba.
Adaji said that on October 27 at about 7 p.m., the accused put his hands into the girl’s private part with intention to have sexual intercourse with her.
“The accused was caught in the act by a neighbour, who was attracted by the cry of the girl from the accused person’s room.
“During police investigation at the station, the accused admitted to the crime but begged for forgiveness,” the prosecutor said.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 268 of the Penal Code.
If convicted on the charge, the accused could spend three years in prison or pay fine or both.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding judge, Mr Albert Maga, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Maga ordered that one of the sureties must be a traditional title holder with landed property and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He adjourned the case to November 20 for hearing. (NAN)
