As intense lobbying continued over the replacement of the late deputy Governorship of Borno state, Zanna Umar Mustapha, elders and youths from Biu Emirate in the southern part of the state have endorsed former Chairman of the Presidential task Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina as their choice.
Biu Emirate Political Leaders and Youths Vanguard for the Promotion of Biu, rose from their meeting in Abuja at the weekend and called on Governor Kashim Shettima to be meticulous in the choice of a successor to the late Mustapha.
They said any wrong choice may have far reaching socio-economic and political implications on the relationships of the diverse interests in Borno state.
Spokesman of the groups, Sule Ibrahim Biu told journalists at the end of their meeting at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers that, while they acknowledge the governor’s prerogative to pick his deputy, they have the duty to make suggestions.
“We know Governor Kashim Shettima is an intelligent man who deserves an equally intelligent person to work with in order to bring about the desired turnaround of Borno state, and Abdulrasheed Maina is his best bet”, he said.
