Bingham University – Karu, Nasarawa State, has declared zero tolerance for sex for marks.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor William Barnabas Qurix, said at the 15th matriculation ceremony of the 2019/2020 academic session of the institution on Friday in Karu, Nasarawa State. Warning that the university will deal decisively with any student found wanting.

He said, “This is a Christian faith based university that is disciplined and has zero tolerance for any kind of indiscipline like sexual harassment, sex for marks, sex for grade, indecent dressing, cultism amongst others”

Professor Quirix said, out of 5,000 applicants, only 925 were offered admission to study medicine, health Sciences, pharmacy, technology, law, social sciences, arts, administration, environment sciences and education.

He explained that since the commencement of academic activities in May 2006, the university has maintained a steady academic calendar and turned out high quality students into the nation and world labour market at large.

According to him, the institution, which operates two campuses, consisting of Karu campus the main campus, and Jos campus where the Clinical training for medical students takes place has a population of about 3,500 students.

He, however, revealed that the university at present has 42 programmes in all, comprising 30 at undergraduate and 12 at post graduate level, noting that out of 42 programmes, 21 new programmes have been introduced and have been approved by National Universities Commission.

fifteen of these programmes are offered at undergraduate level, while the six programmes are for post graduate studies.

He revealed that about 18 new courses have also been introduced at both the undergraduate and post graduate levels to include doctor of optometry, public health, nursing, medical laboratory and architecture.

Others are: master of election management, master of legislative drafting, and digital media communication among others.

He explained that the university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sumy State University, Ukraine, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom and University of Wolverhampton in United Kingdom in the areas of academic mobility and academic staff exchange.

The Vice Chancellor admonished the students to make judicious use of all the opportunities available in the institution to study hard and avoid examination malpractices.

Professor Quirix further disclosed that the institution had sent no fewer than 18 students to Ukraine for academic auditing on economic and computer programmes.
