The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen has appealed against the warrant of arrest issued against him by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The chairman of the CCT, Danladi Umar Wednesday issued a bench warrant to security agencies to arrest and produce Justice Onnoghen before the tribunal today.
But in an appeal based on 11 grounds, Justice Onnoghen argues that the CCT erred in in law when it made the order for his arrest despite a pending application challenging its jurisdiction to determine the case against him.
In the appeal filed by his lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), the CJN further argues that the warrant was made without giving him fair hearing and despite the pending interlocutory applications before the Court of Appeal.
Onnoghen was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 25 over non-declaration of assets.
Hearing in the matter is expected to continue at the CCT today.
