The Amayanabo of Okpoama Kingdom, Brass LGA in Bayelsa State, King Emmanuel Ebitimi Banigo (Okpoama XXI), has ordered the raid of spots used by drug peddlers in his domain.
King Banigo also ordered the flogging of boys who dressed indecently in the area.
The community’s youths and chiefs, led by the Chairman of the chiefs’ council, Chief Inikio Sam Sele-Dede, while carrying out the directive of the monarch, demolished 14 drug peddling points and illicit drugs such as Indian hemp, benzos, cocaine and codeine.
Residents of the area told journalists that the decision to move against the illicit drug spots was provoked by the rising drug use by boys in the community which was causing violence and indecent dressing.
Also, youths with strange haircuts and saggy trousers were apprehended and their hairs shaved, in addition to some strokes of the cane.
