Bauchi State government has condemned the constant attack by the member representing Misau/Dambam constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Ahmed Yerima against the state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, saying it is an attempt to hide his failure and incompetence.
The Press Secretary to the state governor, Abubakar El-Sadique, stated this in a statement issued on Monday, adding that the lawmaker has made attack on the governor a routine duty.
"For quite some time, we have avoided giving responses to the several media drama being dished out almost on daily basis by Mr. Yerima because of our belief that if Honourable Ahmed Yerima doesn’t have any work to do in the House of Representatives where the people of Misau and Dambam local government areas sent him to, we have quite a lot of work in all parts of Bauchi State competing for the attention of Governor Mohammed Abubakar," the statement noted.
The state government has accused Yerima of using the governor as a guinea pig or shield to cover up his gross failure and inadequacies to provide quality representation to the people of his constituency.
"This is the reason why nearly one and a half years into office and having no grasp of or not taking his responsibility as an elected member of the National Assembly seriously, Mr. Yerima chose to embark on smear campaign against the governor in order to hide his failure to give robust representation to the people of the two important local governments of Bauchi State," it added.
The statement also dispelled the allegations levelled against Governor Abubakar as mere fabrications to denigrate the person of the governor and ridicule the state government.
It noted that Yerima among other things accused Governor Abubakar of running the state like a one-man show without consultations with principal stakeholders of the APC in the state, elected members of the National Assembly as well as elders of the party, the traditional institutions and even civil servants are not in his good books.
"Well, we don’t know what he meant by ‘good books’ but these allegations have only further confirmed that Mr. Yerima is out of touch with Bauchi State, otherwise how can such myopic allegations come from somebody of his standing?
It would be recalled that the lawmaker has also accused Governor Abubakar of being behind moves to recall some senators as well as linking him with Dogara/Jibrin’s feud over budget padding.
However, the governor’s spokesman said the lawmaker’s accusations are attempts to drag the governor into unnecessary political brickmanship.
The state government also accused Yerima of allegedly threatening Governor Abubakar to resign or the state will become ungovernable in the next two years, adding that security agencies must investigate the veiled threat against the state governor.
