The Jigawa state Chairman of Consumer Protection Committee (CPC), Faruk Abdulhadi Mallam-madori has said that there are still some bakeries using potassium bromate in baking bread in the state.
The chairman who said this yesterday while fielding questions from newsmen in Dutse, did not give the number of the bakeries but said his committee needed more support from the government to fight them. Mallam-madori also explained that his committee, as part of enforcing its mandate of ensuring the application of standard weights and measurements in selling of all forms of commodities had seized 238 under-standard measuring mudus from grains sellers.
He said the mudus were seized in six different markets in Suletankarkar, Malammadori, Hadejia, Garungabas and Balangu towns.
He said, “Lack of standard weights and measurements in the state is responsible for the disparity in the sizes of measuring mudus used by grains sellers. Some sellers change the size of the measuring mudu in order to short-charge the unsuspecting members of the public.”
