While granting interview to newsmen in Maiduguri at the weekend, Ndume, who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) condemned the alleged move by the leadership of the PDP that it will offer automatic ticket to all serving lawmakers elected on the platform of the party who want to re-contest in the forthcoming 2015 elections.
“Any attempt at giving automatic ticket in 2015 is an affront on the essence of democracy. The will of the people must be respected and they should be allowed to judge and decide on who to represent them,” Ndume said.
The senator added that, “In democracy, the people’s opinion and wishes are sacrosanct, and if PDP is trying to lobby its aggrieved members who are planning to defect to other opposition parties by promising them automatic ticket, then Nigerians must conclude that our great PDP is not a democratic party, but a party that imposes its ideology on the poor masses.
“A levelled playing ground should be provided for those who want to contest any position on the platform of our party come 2015.”
