Globacom Nigeria is seeking the intervention of Speaker Yakubu Dogara on the arrest warrant issued against its chairman, Chief Mike Adenuga, by a House of Representatives panel, Daily Trust can report.

A team of Glo officials who met with the House standing Committee on Telecommunications, chaired by Saheed Akinade-Fijabi (APC, Oyo) at the weekend submitted a letter to that effect.

An adhoc panel of the House investigating operational activities of service providers in the telecoms sector head by Ahmed Abu (APC, Niger), had on Thursday resolved to approach the speaker to issue an arrest warrant against Adenuga, who they said failed to appear before the panel after several invitations.

But the Glo team, led by a director, Toluyin Michael, submitted the letter to Dogara through Fijabi’s panel, saying the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Folu Aderibigbe, along with other officials were at the National Assembly for the meeting with the ad-hoc panel but that due to mix-up, went to the standing committee.

The letter, signed by the COO, read in part: “Contrary to facts of our discussions, we were surprised and disappointed that it was recommended by one of the committees that a bench warrant be issued against our chairman. To this end, we will be grateful if the speaker intervenes to ensure an amicable resolution of the issue.”

After receiving the letter, Fijabi said they would take it to the speaker for necessary action, saying the two panels belong to the House and that the issue could be resolved without rancour.

Daily Trust had in December reported how the two panels were involved in a cold war over jurisdiction.
