The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission says statutory allocations and Internally Generated Revenues are being stolen with impunity in states.

Northeast ICPC Zonal Commissioner Sule Yahaya disclosed this in Bauchi yesterday at a workshop for top local government officials.

He said most government institutions were being used as conduit pipes to siphon public funds which, according to him, deprives majority of Nigerians of good governance.

“This paradox is evident in the way statutory allocations and internally generated revenues are mismanaged and often times, stolen with impunity”, he said.

He disclosed that the commission had so far retrieved over N13 billion unspent funds from MDAs.

He added that the ICPC was worried by corruption and its consequent effects on the society and it was taking measures to reduce the menace.

According to him, the commission has received more than 7, 000 petitions from members of the public, a number of which have been investigated and many cases prosecuted in various courts with many conviction secured.
