The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) has said the ‘Isi agu’ cultural outlook of the Airpeace airline cabin crew has promoted the native attire of the Nigerian culture to the world.

The executive secretary of the institute, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, made this known in Abuja while reacting to rising criticisms against the airline’s choice of an Igbo attire “Isi Agu” as a dress code for its crew members during the recent launch of its Lagos-to-London flight.

In a statement signed by his media assistant to the executive secretary, Caleb Nor, he said the chief executive of the airline, Mr Allen Onyema, should be congratulated for the inaugural direct Boeing 777 flight from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos to Gatwick Airport, London on Saturday, March 30 instead of condemning him for the attire of the cabin crew along tribal lines.

Ajiboye said the institute which was responsible for mobilising all Nigerians towards a culture-oriented lifestyle believed that such a milestone would not only give Nigerians a sense of belonging but also help in repositioning the cultural image before the international community towards building a cultural identity for Nigeria.
