Airlift of Bauchi State pilgrims for this years’ hajj in Saudi Arabia is expected to begin tomorrow.
The State Amirul Hajj, Kawuwa Shehu Damina, disclosed this in Bauchi yesterday while addressing journalists at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport Bauchi, saying officials of the state government had met with the management of the state carrier for the exercise, Fly Nass, over arrangement for the airlift.
Damina who is also the speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly went to the airport to see for himself the preparation being made to ensure a smooth exercise.
He said screening of the intending pilgrims would commence today to herald the beginning of airlift tomorrow.
The Amirul Hajj said intending pilgrims from Plateau State would also undergo screening at the Bauchi Hajj camp before being transported to the airport.
Also speaking, the Manager of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport Bauchi, Engineer Abdulkarim Suleman Hassan, said the management of the airport had made adequate arrangement for the commencement of the hajj exercise in the airport, warning however that no relative of pilgrims would be allowed into the airport.
On night operation in the airport, Suleman said all the necessary facilities had been installed for a 24-hour operation.
About 3,500 pilgrims are expected to perform this years’ hajj from the state.
