Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, (NSCDC) has arrested one Bamidele Rasaq, a staff of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, (AEDC for allegedly stealing aluminum cables belonging to his company.
Rasaq, 45, was arrested alongside his accomplice, one Isiaka John in Iyara, the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
City & Crime learnt that the second suspects, Isiaka John, was formerly a casual staff of AEDC before he was sacked the organisation recently.
While parading the suspects on Thursday in Lokoja at the headquarters of the Kogi State NSCDC, the commandant, Suleiman Ibrahim Mafara, said the suspects have confessed to be in such business for several years before they were arrested.
He added that upon interrogation, the first suspect (Rasaq) admitted to the crime, saying that he has vandalized electric cables on five different occasions before he was arrested.
“When my officers got an intelligent report about the nefarious activities of the AEDC staff and his friend, we immediately laid an ambush on him as he was attempting to vandalize another AEDC cables.
“On the 16th May, 2022, at about 07:00hours, Rasaq came to vandalize the AEDC cables and luck ran out of him, he was arrested. Two months ago, the same Rasaq invited the other suspect (Isiaka John) to help him in his vandalism business”, he said.
Mafara added further that the management of AEDC had earlier communicated the criminal activities of the suspects to his organisation which led to the termination of his appointment recently.
While fielding questions from journalists, the two suspects admitted committing the crime, saying, it’s devil’s handwork.
Items recovered from them include electrical cables, pliers and a motorcycle.
